Type Locality and Naming

Western North Tianshan. The Tamuqi Fm was named by Luo Fazuo et al. in 1977 and published by Li Yong'an et al. in 1982. The type section is near Sangequan, west of Tamuqi, south of Jinghe County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region). It is the lowermost formation of the Kusongmuqiek Gr (Kuximuqik Gr).

Synonym: (塔木契组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Tamuqi Fm is composed of monotonous grey to black thin- to thick-bedded limestone and carbonaceous limestone, with a complex structure. It is over 410 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Bottom is not seen.

Upper contact

The top is conformably overlain by the Sangequan Fm

Regional extent

Western North Tianshan. The formation is exposed on the north slope of Kokirqin Mt. and on both north and south sides of west sector of Kuximuqik Mountain, south of Jinghe County.

Fossils

It contains stromatolites in small amount, such as Cryptoxoon f.; and oncolite, such as Osagia f.
